  • If a student is going to be absent from school, a parent must call the school office (212) 246-4784 before 8:00 AM.

  • On the day the student returns to school, he/she must have an absent note stating the reason for the absence. If a note is not handed in, an illegal absence will be recorded.

  • Students with more than 3 unexcused absences per quarter will not be eligible to receive academic honors.

  • A student who is tardy more than 3 times per quarter will not be eligible for academic honors.

You should keep your child home when he/she exhibits one of the following:

  • a persistent moist cough

  • discolored nasal discharge

  • episodes of vomiting or diarrhea in the past 24 hours

  • fever . . . or until 24 hours have passed since your child has had a fever

  • Pink eye. Keep your child home until there is no discharge from the eye. Your physician will advise you when your child may return to school.

  • Strep Throat – we advise 48 antibiotic treatment before returning to school

In general, if your child is “just not right” evaluate the situation and make the decision that will benefit your child as well as his/her classmates.

  • Students who are absent from school for any reason cannot participate in any after school activity, sporting event, practice etc. on the day that classes have been missed.

  • Excessive unexcused absences and tardiness will be reported to the New York State Bureau of Attendance.

  • Doctor's or dental appointments should be scheduled after school hours or on day when school is not in session.

  • In case of EMERGENCY, if a student must leave school early, a note should be brought in to the school office.

  • A child may leave school early only if accompanied by an authorized adult who should report to the office to sign the student's release.

  • A student is never allowed to leave alone during the school day.
